We have Caesar touting the success of the democratic elections and the election of an Iraqi Parliament. All Democratic politicians need to start saying now that 'Democracy has been established in Iraq thanks to US efforts there'. Now that we see that the Iraqis were able to hold free election and have a government, we feel the Iraqi people should decide if our mission was accomplished and its time for us to leave ... or if they think they still need our troops to do more.
This would give them common cause and put an end to the violence. (Of course he won't go for it- but now he's backing himself into check mate...) Isn't that why our soldiers are dying over there? To allow the Iraqis to use the power of the ballot box, which they have already shown they can do? Even the "rebels" would see the power of democracy. Converting the sinner to see the Lord: don't slaughter the sinner, convert him, thru the ballot box.
The Armageddon-ist view is either "you are with us or against us". If you're not on board when Jesus comes: you will be God's little S and M toy. Sounds so "Abu Ghraib", doesn't it?
How will Bush respond? Well, he can't say that its a horrible idea, since he already has said Mission was Accomplished. If Mission wasn't accomplished, then what is our mission, George? To stop the rebels? They must be part of the solution, or you will have another dictatorship, n'est pas? The best way of getting the battling parties to talk and negotiate is to give them common ground ... getting rid of foreign troops. Since he is already on record as saying the first vote was such as success, why shouldn't a referendum be? Perhaps terror will prevail? Not when they see the power in the ballot George! Let's show terror how democracy works, and they may actually like it. If you show someone Jesus, how can they reject him?
GIVE DEMOCRACY A CHANCE, GEORGE. Let them see the light. Beat those swords into plowshares, baby... isn't that in the Bible somewhere? Dems need to sing out how we need to " Let Democracy's Light Shine into the Darkness of Terror", (its so Reagan-esque) and let them see the power of the box. Let's speak in the same manner he does. Let the people of Iraq (the "Customer" in Corporate jargon) decide if the service we provided was complete ("Mission Accomplished") and gives the approval for us to leave, or if they want us stay to fix the roof that is leaking. By calling for a referendum, Bush will be in Check Mate.
Go with the flow we have. Use it. When you are in a swift moving stream, you can fight to swim upstream, exhaust yourself, and loose. Or you can go with the flow, work with it, and work your way to a firm bank. The answer is in the flow.
